The 8-circle diffractometer has been designed for performing X-ray
diffraction/scattering experiments in different diffraction geometries. The
data acquisition system is controlled by the SPEC X-ray diffraction software
and Certified Scientific Software's C-Plot offers scientific graphics and data
analysis on a PC Linux system.
The existing software provides two kinds of diffraction geometry:
fourc and s2d2. The focussed beam at the sample position provides a photon flux
of approximately 5×10 11 photons/sec with a beam spot size of around 0.25×0.8
mm (V×H) and an energy resolution ΔE/E = 10-4 @ 10 keV. Applications
include X-ray specular and non-specular reflectivity, total X-ray reflection
fluorescence, high-resolution powder X-ray diffraction, and medium resolution
small angle X-ray scattering. Various detecting systems are provides including
NaI scintillation counter, gas-ionization chamber, and position sensitive
detector (Mbraun-50M). A high temperature oven for powder diffraction up to
1800K (Siemens REP2400) is also available.
