126 NSRRC ACTIVITY REPORT 2023 Student User Cultivation and Hands-on Practice Program MOUs and Collaboration In 2023, the NSRRC focused on further expanding and extending our scientific research and development. The NSRRC is committed to facilitating the accessibility of the synchrotron light sources to more cross-field applications, building new experimental equipment, developing new capabilities, and nurturing scientific talents. With continued sharing of new technologies and by supporting scientific research activities, the NSRRC has, from its foundation, sought opportunities for local and international collaboration to build on previous success and to encourage new partnerships that contribute to scientific progress. The NSRRC has formalized relationships with several institutions and universities by establishing bilateral collaboration and signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU). These initiatives are important for accelerating the pace of growth in research and development that is beneficial to all scientists and people around the world. The NSRRC has forged alliances with a range of partners who bring complementary skills, research experiences, and activities. In 2023, the NSRRC had MOUs and collaboration agreements with the following international synchrotron facilities and research institutes in four aspects. 1. Contract beamlines/endstations • TPS 02A Brain Imaging Beamline with Academia Sinica and National Tsing Hua University • TPS 13A Bio‐SAXS Beamline with Academia Sinica • TPS 27A STXM/Ptychography Endstation with Tamkang University • TPS 39A NanoARPES Endstation with Taiwan Consortium of Emergent Crystalline Materials • TPS 45A NSRRC‐MPI Beamline with Max‐Planck‐ Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids • TPS 45A TKU Endstation with Tamkang University 2. International collaboration on beamline/endstation operation and maintenance • Two Taiwan contract beamlines— SP 12B , SP 12U at SPring‐8, Japan The NSRRC Open House attracted 526 participants to the event, which included scientific game stations at the TPS. To foster and nurture talent in the field of synchrotron radiation, the NSRRC started implementing the “Student User Cultivation & Hands-on Practice Program” on a trial basis from Beamtime Cycle 2023-2. This program aims to motivate students from domestic universities to take professional training courses offered by the NSRRC and engage in academic research proposed at the Taiwan Light Source or Taiwan Photon Source. All principal investigators from domestic and international institutes were able to include their experiments in this program, providing opportunities for domestic university students to take part in their experiments. Students who fulfill the requirements become eligible for incentive stipends and accommodation at the NSRRC guesthouse.
