The morning session was closed after Prof. Wei-Tin Chen’s (NTU) presentation on the investigation of several newly synthesized perovskite compounds, prepared by high-pressure high-temperature synthesis. These compounds display successful phase diagrams of the crystal structure, magnetism, and ferroelectricity. Prof. Ya-Sen Sun (NCKU) gave a talk on the morphology change of block copolymer thin films characterized by neutron reflectivity and small-angle scattering techniques. Prof. Chih-Hao Lee (NTHU) discussed boron diffusion from different capping layers, investigated by X-ray reflectivity and polarization neutron reflectivity. In the last session, Dr. Tzu-Yen Huang (NSRRC) presented the neutron reflectometers and their applications in organic solar cells, while Prof. Yan-Ling Yang (National Taiwan University of Science and Technology) presented on the estimation of neutron reflectivity from polymer membranes through molecular dynamics simulations. In this workshop, users were able to exchange their experience and make suggestions for future research in neutron science and its industrial applications. The Annual Open House The annual TPS Open House event of the NSRRC made a lively appearance on November 12. The “Light Researchers” explained the magical light of the TPS and how it could help us to explore the world, from nanostructures to steel structures, guiding 526 adults and children interested in science through a glimpse of the role of synchrotron light in our daily life. Additionally, the NSRRC invited the Li Hongming Foundation, the NTHU THz Optics & Photonics Center, and the National Taiwan Science Education Center to set up fun science booths and provide the public with more aspects of science and knowledge. The “Light Researchers” designed ten scientific game stations at the TPS for the Open House event. Through the interactive games or hands-on activities, understanding how the magical light is produced and how scientists use it to explore the chemical elements, physical materials or biological compositions was made easier for the public. By making slight adjustments to the experiment, scientists may uncover a new substance, offering more insights into the workings of nature. These tactics transformed the public’s perception of the complex scientific concepts into the “magical light”. The NSRRC not only is dedicated to cutting-edge scientific research but also strives to bring science closer to the people, fostering a connection that bridges the gap between scientific knowledge and the public.
