NSRRC Activity Report 2023
I n this section, we selected three significant studies conducted by our user communities employing neutron techniques to explore the fundamental properties of magnetic materials at an atomic scale and biological mechanisms at a nanometer scale. These investigations made use of cutting-edge neutron instruments, including the cold neutron triple-axis spectrometer, SIKA , high-resolution neutron powder diffractometer, ECHIDNA , high-intensity neutron powder diffractometer, WOMBAT , and small-angle neutron scattering instrument, QUOKKA . Noteworthy achievements include magnetic materials analysis by Chin-Wei Wang, which made use of the neutron powder diffractometer, and Chun-Ming Wu's elucidation of virulence factors in infection mechanisms, which utilized QUOKKA . Additionally, Shinichiro Yano provided valuable insights into 2D-THA Heisenberg antiferromagnetic magnetism through inelastic neutron scattering using SIKA . All these studies were carried out at the Open-pool Australian lightwater reactor (OPAL) in the Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation (ANSTO), demonstrating the advanced capabilities of state-of-the-art neutron instruments.
