Facts and Figures 137 Training Course on Data Collection and Analysis of X-ray Nanodiffraction The Training Course on Data Collection and Analysis of X-ray Nanodiffraction was held on August 18. This training course aimed to introduce the technology used in X-ray nanodiffraction to the users and potential users who may find application in their own research. NSRRC beamline scientists provided an overview of X-ray nanodiffraction microscopy and its applications. They also demonstrated two software tools for data analysis, the XMAS software and the Quick XND software. The course concluded with a discussion on sample preparation methods. Forty users and potential users participated in the Training Course on Data Collection and Analysis of X-ray Nanodiffraction. Learning Opportunities for NEHS Students NSRRC introduced learning opportunities for the National Experimental High School (NEHS) at Hsinchu Science Park in 2019. In year 2020, NEHS selected 27 high-school students to participate in experiments with NSRRC scientists. The students first took thematic classes on radiation safety and scientific research related to synchrotron radiation, before commencing thematic studies in a group with NSRRC scientists for an academic year. This year, nine scientists at the NSRRC provided students with ten research topics, including photoluminescent MoS 2 materials; single photon source materials; antibacterial proteins as potential new antibacterial drugs; application of lipid micelle on genes and drug deliveries; structural analysis using single crystal X-ray diffractometer; viral protein purification and crystalline structure; electrical power generated by waste heat and ocean salinity energy; disease detection in blood serum using infrared spectroscopy; green hydrogen studies; and biomolecular solution structures and characteristics. These learning opportunities sowed the seeds of knowledge amongst high-school students and provided brilliant students with opportunities to explore a national research center.
