NSRRC Activity Report 2023
134 NSRRC ACTIVITY REPORT 2023 Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy The Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of data acquisition and analysis. The course was held at the NSRRC on July 4 and had a total of 155 attendees. NSRRC scientists gave lectures on X-ray absorption fine-structure (XANES) data collection. Two common software packages used for data acquisition and the analysis of X-ray absorption spectra, Athena and Artemis, were discussed, and the simulation of XANES spectra with the FDMNES code was also demonstrated. Focal-Plane Array Infrared Microspectroscopy Training Course The Focal-Plane Array Infrared Microspectroscopy Training Course was held on July 11 and 12 at the NSRRC. There were 26 undergraduate, masters, and PhD students, as well as assistants in the training course. The NSRRC scientists gave lectures on the principles and data processing of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and focal-plane array infrared microspectroscopy. After the scientists demonstrated the use of the focal-plane array infrared microscopes, the participants were given practical training where they could prepare and visualize samples themselves. The participants were also trained to perform analysis of the spectroscopic data obtained from the samples. There were 155 users and potential users in the Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy. Twenty-six users of NSRRC infrared beamlines participated in the Focal-Plane Array Infrared Microspectroscopy Training Course and gained hands-on experience analyzing data at TLS 14A1 .
