Facts and Figures 131 X-ray Summer School Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy The NSRRC X-ray Summer School provides a platform for junior scientists, engineers of industrial applications, and senior undergraduate and graduate students to exchange scientific ideas, share knowledge, and collaborate. The 11 th X-ray Summer School session was organized by the NSRRC and the Department of Life Science at National Tsing Hua University from August 23 to 26. A total of 61 participants gathered at Sun Moon Lake, a famous lakeshore getaway in Taiwan, for the session. The program included an introduction to basic concepts, technologies, applications of X-ray techniques (absorption, diffraction, scattering, and tomography), Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry and imaging, and theoretical calculation (molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics). Scientists and medical doctors were invited to give lectures on cutting-edge technologies and applications in X-ray and infrared science; biomaterials, drug design, pharmaceutical testing, spectroscopy, and spectral imaging in diagnosis medicine; clinical surveillance; and artificial intelligence and machine learning in image reconstruction. The Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of data acquisition and analysis. The course was held at the NSRRC on August 29 and had 105 attendees. Lecturers covered X-ray absorption fine-structure data collection and wavelet transform analysis of extended X-ray absorption fine-structure spectra. Two common software packages used for data acquisition and the analysis of X-ray absorption spectra, Athena and Artemis, were also explained, and a demonstration of their use was provided. The 11 th X-ray Summer School organized by the NSRRC and NTHU at Sun Moon Lake. More than one hundred users and potential users participated in the Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy.
