Facts and Figures 121 Users’ Meeting & Workshops After a hiatus of more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 NSRRC Users’ Meeting and Workshops were held from August 30 to September 1. It was co-hosted by the Chair of the User Executive Committee (UEC), Dr. Heng-Liang Wu (Center for Condensed Matter Sciences, National Taiwan University), and an NSRRC scientist, Dr. Orion Shih. Setting the record for the most participants in recent years, 550 people including 32 speakers attended this year’s meeting. It also featured two workshops and one interest group meeting. The first day began with opening remarks from the UEC Chair, followed by an overview of the NSRRC's status and prospects by the newly appointed Director Chia-Hung Hsu, as well as updates on recent progress within the Light Source Division and Experimental Facility Division by Dr. Meng-Shu Yeh and Dr. Yu-Shan Huang, respectively. Later, President W. John Kao of NTHU delivered the keynote speech titled "The Biomedical Technology Value Chain: The Present and Future Role of the NTHU". The first day ended with the Town Meeting that provided opportunities for all users and NSRRC staff to discuss current issues. The first two days were packed with excitement. Eleven outstanding users gave invited talks on their latest research. The NSRRC Run on the second morning gathered 164 runners from among both users and NSRRC staff. Later in the afternoon, an interest group meeting was held, which featured environmental science for the first time. There were 298 poster presentations, including 139 posters signed up for the poster presentation competition and best- poster popularity awards and twelve reached the finals of the oral presentation competition. The judges finally selected nine winners for the oral presentation competition and 25 winners for the poster presentation competition. Six posters received the most votes from the attendees and won the best-poster popularity awards. An awards ceremony was held during the banquet. Prof. Yu-Lun Chueh (NTHU) succeeded Dr. Wu as the UEC chair at the end of the banquet and concluded the users’ meeting. fruitful scientific results from fundamental, innovative and industrial research.” Director Hsu stated that her goals over the next four years, under the supervision of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), will be to steer the NSRRC toward further scientific research, promote cutting-edge innovation, and foster talents in science. Aside from providing academia with sophisticated facilities that strengthen interdisciplinary studies and collaborations, the NSRRC will enhance partnerships with industries to assist in industrial upgrades. Furthermore, the NSRRC’s scientific capabilities and resources will be integrated in response to the nation’s focus on green energy, semiconductors, and biomedicine.
