Facts and Figures 141 Twelve participants at the Training Course on Soft X-ray Tomography were interested in TPS 24A, which started to accept users since 2020. More than one hundred users and potential users participated in the Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy. Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy Training Course on Soft X-ray Tomography The Training Course on Data Analysis of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy was designed to enhance users’ understanding and techniques for data acquisition and analysis. In total 123 attendees took the course held at NSRRC on August 24 and 25. The lecturers demonstrated Athena, Atoms, Feff and Artemis, which are the most common software currently in use for data ac- quisition and analysis of X-ray absorption spectra. In addition, a lecture regarding sample preparation was given to emphasize that the sample quality is crucial when acquiring data from X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Soft X-ray tomography (SXT) gen- erates three-dimensional images of cells preserved in a nearly-native, frozen-hydrated state without the use of sectioning and staining because of the deep penetration and natural con- trast. The combination of fluorescence and SXT data acquired from biolog- ical specimens provides functional and structural information about the interior structure of cells. This training course emphasized the sample prepa- ration and image analysis of cryo- preserved specimens. Attended by 12 participants, the training was held on November 11, delivered through lectures, and hands-on practice on cryo-sample preparation and analysis.
