140 ACTIVITY REPORT 2020 The NTHU-NSRRC Summer Course enrolled 35 graduate and upper-year undergraduate students this summer NTHU-NSRRC Summer Course: Applications on Synchrotron Light Source The NTHU-NSRRC Summer Course was organized by Prof. Chih-Hao Lee (Department of Engineering & System Science, NTHU), and jointly offered by NSRRC scientists and NTHU pro- fessors from August 4 to 17. It was a three-credit graduate course designed to disseminate fundamental knowl- edge about synchrotron light sources, to introduce various experimental facilities and to demonstrate related research and applications. In total 35 graduate and upper-year undergrad- uate students enrolled this summer; the course combined lectures, facility tours and hands-on activities. Students received their certificates for the summer internship on the last day. Training Courses (Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 most regular training courses were cancelled, except the following ones.) Summer Internship To promote synchrotron-related sciences and plant roots at the undergraduate level, NSRRC has organized summer intern- ships since 2013, targeting college juniors and seniors who are interested in devoting five weeks to study and to work in a synchrotron facility. This year 34 students were accepted to the 8 th Summer Internship, held from July 13 to August 12. Lec- tures given by NSRRC scientists in the first week covered fundamental knowledge ranging from accelerator science to diverse research applicable at the NSRRC beamlines. During weeks two to five, students selected and joined the laboratories or endstations to work with scientists in one of six groups: X-ray structural analysis of materials, X-ray spectroscopy, synchrotron- based X-ray microscopy, molecular sciences, structural biology and accelerator technology.
