Facts and Figures 131 The 2020 NSRRC Open House Day allowed the public of all ages to experience science in an intriguing way. The Annual Open House The annual Open House of the NSRRC was held on October 31, the same date as Halloween. About 900 children and adults dressed in Halloween costumes to participate in the interesting activities on NSRRC Open House Day. This year, the Open House activities incorporated a series of games, VR experience, a movie and a facility tour. NSRRC scientists designed 14 interactive game stations and hoped to overturn the stereotype of science being difficult to comprehend and connect our daily life to science. Through the movie, “Aka’s Adventure: The Secret of Light,” collaboratively produced by the NSRRC and Studio2 Animation Lab, the audience was given ideas about what synchrotron facilities could do. Participants were able to catch a glimpse of TPS vast experimentation facilities by walking inside its storage ring. Additionally, High-energy Optics & Electronics Laboratory (HOPE Lab) of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) had a fun- science booth at this event. The HOPE lab provided three interesting activities for the participants, allowing children to operate magic plasma balls, direct current generators and other teaching aids through a series of DIY scientific exploration activities. Users’ Meeting & Workshops The annual NSRRC Users' Meeting and Workshops con- vened November 10 to 12. Co-hosted by the Chair of the User Executive Committee (UEC), Prof. Tsan-Yao Chen (NTHU) and NSRRC scientist Dr. Chen-Lin Liu, 472 people attended the meeting, including 75 invited speakers. Be- sides the annual users’ meeting, this year’s meeting fea- tured three workshops, six interest group meetings and a “NTUST-NSRRC Bilateral Meeting”. The first day began with opening remarks from the UEC Chair, followed by an overview of the NSRRC’s status and prospects by Director Gwo-Huei Luo. Prof. Pi-Tai Chou (National Taiwan University) delivered the keynote speech, titled “Fundamentals and Applications of Materials via Control of Ground and Excited-state Properties”. Later Dr. Ming-Chyuan Lin and Dr. Yu-Shan Huang updated the au- dience on recent progress within the Light Source Division and the Experimental Facility Division, respectively, before the Users’ Town Meeting was held. From the afternoon of the first day to the second day, 16 outstanding users gave invited talks on their latest research. The NSRRC Run on the second morning gathered 241 run- ners of users and NSRRC colleagues. The scientific program of the second day concluded with six breakout interest-group meetings covering Protein X-ray Crystallography, Powder
