About the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center Located in Hsinchu Science Park, the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) is a non-profit research organization, funded by Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). NSRRC currently operates two synchro- tron light sources, named Taiwan Light Source (TLS) and Taiwan Photon Source (TPS), and provides users worldwide with 36 beamlines (as of January 2020) including two Taiwanese contract beamlines at SPring-8. TLS, of beam energy 1.5 GeV and circumference 120 m, is the first third-generation synchrotron light source facility established in Asia and the third globally. It comprises 23 beamlines and over 50 experimental stations, and began user operation in 1993. TPS, of circumference 518.4 m, is equipped with a low-emittance synchrotron storage ring and a booster synchrotron of energy 3 GeV. It has a capacity of about 40 beamlines; 11 beamlines are now opened to users. As one of the brightest synchrotron light sources in the world, TPS fills the energy gap for X-ray sciences, accelerates scientific progress, and opens research with synchrotron radiation to more diverse fields, especially biomedicine and nanoscience technologies. Every year, over 2,000 users use NSRRC’s experimental facilities. For more information about the NSRRC, see www.nsrrc.org.tw.
