Book Launch: The Journey of Pursuing Light – Stories about the Development of Synchrotron Light Sources in Taiwan

Co-published by the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) and Commonwealth Publishing Group, the book titled ‘The Journey of Pursuing Light’ (literally translated from追光之旅), hit the online and physical bookstore shelves on August 30th. This non-fiction book documents the challenging journey of how the scientific pioneers led to achieve the scientific innovations. The stories included in this book unveil how the first light source in Taiwan came to a reality at a time of economic and academic transformation as well as how the construction of the second light source was broached, set into action and became a booster for the world’s top research.

An online book launch event took place on September 3rd;  Dr. Hwo-Shuenn Sheu (NSRRC scientist), Mr. Portnoy Zheng (founder of PanSci), and Academician Chung-Yuan Mou, who have been all devoted in promoting popular science were present at the launch. They shared the stories about the historical development of the synchrotron radiation facilities, accelerator technology and its applications in Taiwan, leading readers to explore the purposes of the NSRRC and how light sources facilitate scientific research.
