The 24 winners of the 2020 Y. Z. Hsu Awards received the prizes on October 19th, 2021, including 5 NSRRC users. Prof. Yu-Tai Tao, Distinguished Researcher in Chemistry of Academia Sinica, was honored with Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professor in Optoelectronics & Communications. Prof. Jiun-Tai Chen, Distinguished Professor in Applied Chemistry of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, received the Y. Z. Hsu Science Paper Award in Nano Science & Technology. Prof. Yun-Ru Chen of the Genomics Research Center at Academia Sinica received the Y. Z. Hsu Science Paper Award in Bio-medical Technology. Prof. Jeng-Kuei Chang, Distinguished Professor in Materials Science and Engineering of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, received the Y. Z. Hsu Science Paper Award in Green Science & Technology. Prof. Kuen-Song Lin, Distinguished Professor in Chemical Engineering & Materials Science of Yuan-Ze University, was recognized as Yuan Ze Chair Professor. The awards not only signify the contributions made by the recipients in emerging sciences and technologies, but also acknowledge their achievements in research.

The "Far Eastern Y. Z. Hsu Science and Technology Memorial Foundation" was established in 2001 in memory of Mr. Yu-Ziang Hsu, the late founder of the Far Eastern Group. The Foundation upholds its principle of encouraging “Technology and Innovation,” and therefore gives out the “Y. Z. Hsu Awards” annually, including Science Chair Professor, Science Paper Award, and Technology Invention Award. In addition, the honors of Outstanding Professor Award and Yuan Ze Chair Professor are given to staff from Yuan-Ze University, Oriental Institute of Technology, and Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, founded by Mr. Hsu, as well as their co-op partner, the National Taiwan University Hospital. The Foundation aims to promote outstanding science and technology achievement in domestic academia, focusing on nano technology, optoelectronics & communications, bio-medical technology, and green technologies, as well as AI intelligence, a newly added category in 2019.
