In a recent issue of the internationally leading scientific journal Nature, the work of a NSRRC user, Prof. Ann-Shyn Chiang, is described and highlighted as "Technology Feature" under the topic “Specials.” He says that it has taken a full decade to map only half the fly brain, but with a technique called synchrotron X-ray tomography, it now takes less than 10 minutes to image the whole brain. Synchrotron X-ray imaging makes mapping the human connectome at single-neuron resolution more realistic in the near future. Prof. Chiang is Distinguished Chair Professor, Dean of College of Life Science, and Director of Brain Research Center at National Tsing Hua University. His research expertise ranges from brain research, genetics of behavior, to molecular imaging. He was given TWAS Prize in Biology, AEARU Distinguished Lecture, and various international honors. His works have been published in renowned journals like Cell and Science.
