The award ceremony of “The 14th Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Awards” took place this afternoon. Two NSRRC users were selected as the winners of the awards which were announced earlier in May. Prof. Chien-Hong Cheng (National Tsing Hua University), specializing in transition metal-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond formation as well as synthesis of new organic and organometallic electroluminescent materials and fabrication of electroluminescent devices, is honored as the “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professor” in the category of Optoelectronics Technology. Prof. Nae-Lih Wu (National Taiwan University), with research interests in synthesis and characterization of nanocrystalline metal and oxide particles as well as Li-ion battery and supercapacitors, is awarded “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award (Green Technology)”. The award not only signifies the contributions of the recipients to novel and emerging science and technology, but also represents highly affirmation for their achievements in academic research.

The "Far Eastern Y. Z. Hsu Science and Technology Memorial Foundation" was established in 2001 in remembrance of the late Founder of the Far Eastern Group, Yu-Ziang Hsu. The sponsorship of the “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professor” and the “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award” is committed to the Foundation’s founding principle of enhancing “Technology and Innovation”.

Each year, experts are recruited by the Foundation to review and to select the winners of the “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Award”. The nominee list for the award is produced first through Peer Review and it is then submitted to the review committee members for final evaluation. The final winner list, after being confirmed by the members of the Board, is then announced to the public. The Foundation encourages the development of high tech research in “Nano Science & Technology”, “Communication & Optoelectronics”, “Bio-medical technology”, and “Green Technology”. Since the Foundation was established, more than one hundred scholars have been rewarded.
