The winners of the “13th Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Award” have been announced after the award review committee selected the remarkable talents from the candidates. NSRRC users, Prof. Wen-Chang Chen, both a distinguished professor and an associate dean of National Taiwan University, is honored with “Y. Z. Hsu Technology & Innovation Award (Nano-Tech)”; Prof. Ying-Hao Chu from Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Chiao Tung University is awarded “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award (Nano-Tech)”; Prof. Hsuen-Li Chen from Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Taiwan University has won “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award (Photoelectric-Tech)”; Associate Research Fellow of Genomics Research Center, Academia Sinica, Yun-Ru Chen, is honored with “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award (Biotechnology Pharmaceutical)”, while Prof. Kuo-Chu Hwang from Department of Chemistry, National Tsing Hua University has won “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award (Green Technology)”. The winners were selected from a large group of outstanding candidates and this not only signified their contributions to novel and emerging science and technology, but also highly represented affirmation for their achievements in academic research.
The "Far Eastern Y. Z. Hsu Science and Technology Memorial Foundation" was established in 2001 in remembrance of the late Founder of the Far Eastern Group, Mr. Y. Z. Hsu. The sponsorship of the “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professor” and the “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award” is committed to the Foundation’s founding principle of enhancing “Technology and Innovation”.
Each year, several professional experts are recruited by the Foundation to review and to select the winners of the “Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Award”. The nominee list for the award is produced first through Peer Review and it is then submitted to the review committee members for final evaluation. The final winner list, after being confirmed by the members of the Board, is then announced to the public. The Foundation encourages the development of high tech research in “Nano Science & Technology”, “Communication & Optoelectronics”, “Bio-medical technology”, and “Green Technology”. Since the Foundation was established, more than one hundred scholars have been rewarded.
