The Electrochemical Society (ECS) announced the 12 members of its 2025 Class of Fellows on June 17. According to this year's list, Prof. Bing-Joe Hwang is the only scholar from Taiwan to receive this prestigious honor.
Prof. Bing-Joe Hwang is a Chair Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) and the Founder and Director of the Sustainable Electrochemical Energy Development Center at NTUST. He also serves as a board member and an adjunct scientist at the NSRRC. His research spans from electrochemistry to spectroscopy, interfacial phenomena, materials science, and theoretical chemistry. Widely regarded as the father of battery research in Taiwan, he has published over 550 peer-reviewed papers, holds an h-index of 99 with 40,000 citations, and owns 80 patents. Among the many awards he has received include the Humboldt Research Award, Lifetime National Chair Professorship from the Ministry of Education, and three Outstanding Research Awards from the National Science Council of Taiwan.
Established in 1989, the ECS Fellow designation recognizes individuals for their advanced technological contributions to electrochemistry and solid-state science and technology, as well as their dedicated service to the Society. Each year, up to 15 renowned scientists and engineers worldwide are chosen by their peers for this honor. Prof. Hwang's selection as an ECS Fellow not only affirms his enduring dedication and contributions to electrochemical research, but also highlights his leadership and influence in the global academic community.
