Distinguished Chair Prof. Way-Faung Pong from Tamkang University, a senior user of the NSRRC, collaborated with Prof. Chun-Wei Chen from National Taiwan University and researchers from the NSRRC on innovative research in green energy materials. Their work has been featured in the prestigious Journal of American Chemical Society (JACS). The results represent not only the latest breakthrough in green energy material research, but also highlight the long-standing collaborations with the NSRRC.

Manipulating the spin ordering of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts through magnetization has recently emerged as a promising strategy to enhance performance. The researchers used in situ X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at the Taiwan-contract beamline BL12XU at SPring-8 in Japan and TPS 44A at the NSRRC respectively to investigate the interplay between spin states, atomic/electronic structures, and OER catalytic activities of the CoFe2O4 (CFO) catalyst under an external magnetic field. The findings deepen our understanding of spin-driven electrocatalysis at the atomic level and provide valuable insights into the design of efficient OER catalysts, contributing to the advancement of net-zero emissions goals.
