2025/03/31
The Ministry of Education (MOE) recently held the award ceremony for the National Chair Professorships, National Award for Distinguished Contribution to Industry-Academia Cooperation, and Academic Awards. Among the recipients were three NSRRC users.

Academician Li-Chyong Chen received the 2025 National Chair Professorship in Mathematics and Natural Science for her outstanding scientific achievements in solid-state physics, optoelectronic physics, materials science, nanotechnology, and green and sustainable energy applications. Academician Lin is a professor of Physics at National Taiwan University (NTU) and currently serves as the director of NTU's Center of Atomic Initiatives for New Materials. A long-term user of NSRRC, she has also served as a supervisor and trustee on our board for many years. One of her key projects involves using NSRRC’s synchrotron to study the reactions of carbon dioxide and water on photocatalytic materials, aiming for "artificial photosynthesis" to convert carbon dioxide into hydrocarbon fuels.

Prof. Wen-Chang Chen is the president of NTU and a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. He is also a long-term and esteemed user of the NSRRC. As a leading figure in the fields of electronic and optoelectronic polymer materials as well as polymer nanomaterials, Prof. Chen conducts internationally collaborative research and holds a prominent position in the global academic community. This marks the second time he has been awarded the National Chair Professorship in Engineering and Applied Science from MOE, and now he holds the title as a Lifetime Honorary National Chair Professorship.

Prof. Rong-Ming Ho from Chemical Engineering of National Tsing Hua University, previously served as the Chair of the User Executive Committee of the NSRRC and is currently a member of NSRRC’s Proposal Evaluation Committee. Prof. Ho was awarded the 2025 Academic Award in the Engineering and Application Science category for his pioneering research in polymer physics and polymer morphology, highly ordered nano-network materials and nano-patterning technology. His work has had a profound impact on both the fundamental research of polymer self-assembly physics and the applied research in polymer nanotechnology.

Every year, the MOE awards the superlatives with National Chair Professorships and Academic Awards, for the purpose of recognizing and honoring individuals who have made significant contributions in research and demonstrated a commitment to high quality teaching and research. Since 1997, a total of 169 National Chair Professorships have been awarded; 504 researchers have won the Academic Award.
