A LifeNSRRC User |
This page is meant to guide you through the process of becoming
a new user of the Biological Crystallography Facility at NSRRC
(BioNSRRC). If you are new to synchrotron facilities, we recommend
starting with Step 1. If you are an experienced user, you can
skip to Step 3. All users should read Step 4 thoroughly
for important information to access the NSRRC.

Identify
Your Technique and Beamline |
In order to perform your experiments properly, you need to know
what technique and beamline you'd like to use. Please use the option
listed below to identify the technique and beamline of your interest.

Register
Yourself on the NSRRC User Website |
Please visit the URL at (http://portal.nsrrc.org.tw/chgLanguage.php?lang=ENG&page=%2Fuser%2Fuser_app.php)
and complete your personal information to register as NSRRC user.
Then you will have your own user account and password to apply your
beamtime on-line.

Apply
Your Beamtime |
With your user account, you can apply your beamtime at http://user.nsrrc.org.tw.
Click on the "Proposal" button to log in and choose the
"Beamtime Application" option to submit proposal online.
You will be informed of the evaluation result and beamtime schedule
(if any) by e-mail about 1 month before the experiment cycle starts.
In case the website is down or if you cannot submit your application
online, you can download and complete the A1e
form (for new proposal application) or A3e
form (for continued proposal application) at http://portal.nsrrc.org.tw/uao/Form/forms.php?ver=0
and send it to user@nsrrc.org.tw
by e-mail.

4-1. Before You Arrive (*=
required)
*User Card Application
NSRRC storage ring and booster area is classified as a radiation
control area. Outside users should receive safety training before
they are allowed to enter radiation control area, and the user card
and radiation badge service will be activated. Please apply your
User Card at http://portal.nsrrc.org.tw/chgLanguage.php?lang=ENG&page=%2FSafety%2F.
The User Card application procedure can be completed online prior
to arrival at the NSRRC and is strongly recommended since it saves
a considerable amount of time during the check-in process at the
NSRRC.
*Experiment Safety Approval
Form
An Experiment Safety Approval Form
(ESAF) must be completed for every experiment at the NSRRC to reduce
or eliminate possible risks and hazards associated with your experiment.
ESAFs must be submitted prior to the start date of your experiments.
After logged in at http://portal.nsrrc.org.tw,
click "Schedule"> "ExpSafety" to complete
the form, click the "View" icon to print out the form,
and fax it to +886-3-579-0572. In case of internet failure, please
complete and return A2e form at http://portal.nsrrc.org.tw/uao/Form/forms.php?ver=0.
*What you MUST bring
All users must bring proper identification
(passport for international user) during their visits to NSRRC.
Failure to possess current identification may result in your inability
to be granted access to the NSRRC.
Travel and Stay
Information on travel to NSRRC can be found at http://www.nsrrc.org.tw/english/location.aspx.

If you really don't know how to get to NSRRC, you can follow the
following instructions:
Print out both the English and Chinese maps available at the following
URLs, and bring it with you while you are coming to NSRRC (English
map at http://www.nsrrc.org.tw/english/map_2.aspx,
Chinese map at http://www.nsrrc.org.tw/chinese/map_ycj.aspx).
Contact your local travel agency to arrange a fly trip to arrive
at the CKS International Airport in Taiwan, R.O.C. according to
your approved beamtime schedule. Upon arrival, you can get a taxi
at the exit of the terminal, and show the driver the Chinese map.
The directions on the map will tell the driver how to bring you
to NSRRC’s front desk. Taxi costs around NTD1,600. Make sure you
have enough NTD currency.
4-2. Upon Arrival (*= required)
*NSRRC Check-In
New users and users with expired User Card are required to check-in
at the Users Administration Office at Research Building, room S207
(Ext: 7203/7205/7207/7213), during the regular work week (Monday
through Friday) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to
pick up your User Card, Radiation Badge, and complete other necessary
documents. Users with active User Card may access the NSRRC experimental
floor at any time during normal operations.
*Operation Fee
If your research is for profit purpose, you need to contact the
Finance Department of NSRRC, and pay the operational fee (NTD25,000
per 8 hours ) before start of your experiment.
*Gate Access at NSRRC Entrance
Users will need to present their NSRRC User Card.
*Beamline Training
After checking in with the NSRRC User Administration Office, contact
your Local
Contact to take you to the beamline, and do some beamline training.
This training is beamline specific and will be executed by the Local
Contact at the beamline upon arrival.

4-3. Before You Leave (*= required)
*International User
Please return your User Card and Radiation Badge to Users Administration
Office during the regular work week (Monday through Friday) between
the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
If leaving NSRRC after office hours, please return your User Card
to the guardroom located at the main entrance or drop it in the
Guesthouse check out box along with your room key.
*Domestic User
Please place your badge in one of the slots at the "Personnel
Dosimeter Cabinet" located at the main entrance of storage
ring.
If leaving NSRRC after office hours, please return your room key
to the guardroom located at the main entrance or drop it in the
Guesthouse check out box.
