In the past two decades, there has been a rapid growth in science and technology of accelerators as well as the development of a wealth of their applications. Accelerators become a most exciting field. In the Asian region, the bottleneck has been lack of opportunities for students to learn about this fascinating growing field first hand from experts in the field. The OCPA Accelerator Schools aim to address this need.

This is the fifth OCPA Accelerator School in its series. The first School was held in Hsinchu, Taiwan, 1998 , the second in Yellow Mountain, Anhui, 2000, the third in Singapore, 2002, and the forth in Yangzhou, 2006. The purpose of the OCPA Accelerator schools is to provide the students with basic training on modern accelerators. It offers courses that are both informative and practical. Participants are welcome from all countries and regions. Students are expected to have the equivalent of senior undergraduate or graduate school training in physics or engineering. No prior knowledge of accelerators is required. The official language is Chinese.

Topics covered in the program include those encountered in the operation of existing accelerators and accelerators that have been proposed and are under construction. Emphasis will be placed on subjects including synchrotron radiation, high energy physics, spallation neutrons, heavy ions, and medical applications. Tutorial sessions are set aside from the formal course sessions to consolidate the learning.
